Shower Board – Frequently Asked Questions
Find quick answers to the most common questions about our shower wall boards, delivery, installation and aftercare. If you still need help, our friendly team is just a call or email away.
What is a Shower Board and how is it different from tiles?
Shower Board panels are waterproof wall boards designed to create a seamless, grout-free finish in showers and bathrooms. Unlike tiles, there are no grout lines to scrub and no small joints for water or mould to creep into. Panels are quicker to fit, easier to keep clean and give a modern, continuous look across your walls.
Are Shower Board panels fully waterproof?
Yes. When installed correctly with the recommended trims, sealants and adhesives, Shower Board panels create a fully waterproof surface that is ideal for shower enclosures, around baths and in wet rooms. The panel face is non-porous, so it won’t soak up water or harbour mould the way old grout can.
Can I install Shower Board over existing tiles?
In most cases, yes. As long as the existing tiles are sound, securely fixed and relatively flat, Shower Board panels can be fitted directly over the top using high-grab adhesive. Any loose or hollow tiles should be removed and the area made good before fitting. Always follow the specific installation instructions supplied with your panels.
Do I need special trims and sealants for the boards?
We strongly recommend using the manufacturer-approved trims, end caps and sealants with your Shower Board system. These accessories are designed to work with the panel thickness, provide expansion room and ensure joints remain watertight. Using non-compatible trims can cause fitting issues and may affect the manufacturer’s warranty.
Can Shower Board panels be cut to size?
Yes, panels can be cut on site to suit your exact wall sizes and openings. Most installers use a fine-tooth handsaw or circular saw for straight cuts and a jigsaw for cut-outs such as pipes and niches. Always cut face up where possible, support the panel fully and wear appropriate safety protection while cutting.
Where can I use Shower Board – only in the shower?
Shower Board is perfect for inside shower enclosures, around baths and behind basins, but you can also use it on full bathroom walls or feature walls. Many ranges are suitable for wet rooms and for use with compatible shower trays and tanking systems. Always check the product details to confirm suitability for your specific project.
How do I clean and look after my Shower Board walls?
Day-to-day, simply wipe the panels down with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive bathroom cleaner. Avoid anything gritty, scouring pads or strong solvents, as these can damage the surface. Because there are no grout lines, keeping your walls fresh and hygienic is far quicker than with traditional tiles.
What warranty do Shower Board panels come with?
All boards we supply come with at least a 12-month manufacturer’s warranty as standard, and many premium ranges include extended guarantees against manufacturing defects or water penetration when fitted in line with the installation guidelines. Full warranty details are shown on each product page and in the manufacturer’s documentation.
How long does delivery take and where do you deliver?
We deliver Shower Board panels across mainland UK, Scotland and Wales. Many popular lines are available on a next-working-day service, with most other orders delivered within 3–5 working days once your order has been accepted. You’ll receive an email with your estimated delivery date and any tracking information provided by the courier.
Can I order samples before choosing a design?
Yes, you can request samples of selected Shower Board finishes so you can see the colour and texture in your own bathroom before committing to a full order. Samples are ideal if you’re matching to existing tiles, flooring, furniture or brassware. Simply look for sample options on the product pages or contact our team and we’ll arrange them for you.
