Wall-Mounted vs Ceiling-Mounted Shower Arms
The two main shower arm types serve different installation purposes and create quite different aesthetics in the finished bathroom.
Wall-mounted shower arms: project horizontally from the wall at a fixed angle — connecting to the water supply through the wall and positioning the shower head out over the shower zone. Available in a range of projection lengths, the right projection depends on the size of your shower head and how far out over the shower zone it needs to sit for comfortable use.
Ceiling-mounted drop arms: hang vertically downward from a ceiling rose, creating the classic overhead rainfall shower installation that is one of the most sought-after features in contemporary bathroom design. The drop length determines the finished height of the shower head — worth calculating carefully based on your ceiling height and the height of the tallest user before ordering.
Fixed vs Adjustable Shower Arms
Most shower arms are fixed — set at a specific projection or drop length and non-adjustable once installed. Adjustable or swivel shower arms allow the head angle to be repositioned after installation, which can be useful for fine-tuning the direction of water flow in a fixed overhead installation.
