Corner Entry Shower Enclosure
That unused bathroom corner deserves better. A corner entry shower enclosure is specifically designed to slot neatly into the corner of your bathroom, using two adjoining walls as the structural frame and leaving the rest of your floor space completely free. Rather than positioning a shower along a single wall — which eats into the usable width of the room — a corner shower enclosure occupies only the corner footprint, making it one of the most space-efficient shower installations available for UK bathrooms of all sizes.Unlike a quadrant shower enclosure with its curved front, a corner entry enclosure features a flat or angled front panel with one or two opening doors positioned at the diagonal access point — meaning you walk in at the corner rather than straight on. This diagonal entry design creates a genuinely wide, easy-to-use access opening without needing a large room to swing a door into. Whether you’re replacing a bath with a shower in a medium-sized family bathroom, making the most of an underused corner in a master en-suite, or fitting a secondary shower in a compact space, a corner entry enclosure delivers both practicality and a clean, modern aesthetic. At ShowerBoard, our corner entry shower enclosures are available in square and rectangular configurations from 700×700mm up to 1000×1000mm, with sliding double door, hinged double door, and pivot door entry options across the range. All enclosures are fitted with toughened safety glass as standard and are available in polished chrome, matt black, and brushed nickel finishes from trusted brands including Scudo, Nuie, and Kudos. What Is a Corner Entry Shower Enclosure?
A corner entry shower enclosure — also referred to as a corner shower cubicle, corner shower unit, or diagonal entry shower enclosure — is a freestanding shower structure designed to sit flush in a 90-degree bathroom corner, using both adjacent walls as two sides of the enclosure. The remaining sides consist of glass panels, with the entry point positioned at the front corner angle between the two glass panels. Depending on the model, the opening mechanism at this diagonal entry point may be a pair of sliding doors, a set of hinged double doors, or a single pivot panel — each offering a different practical balance between access width, space requirement, and ease of cleaning.
This corner-positioned layout is what sets corner entry enclosures apart from alcove or recess shower enclosures, which sit between three fixed walls and require a dedicated shower recess in the bathroom layout. Corner enclosures, by contrast, need only two walls — making them far easier to retrofit into existing bathrooms without significant building work.
Corner Entry vs Quadrant Shower Enclosures — What’s the Difference?
This is one of the most common questions our ShowerBoard team gets asked, both in our Darlington showroom and online. Both are corner-fitted shower solutions — but they’re quite different in shape, size, and aesthetic:
Corner entry shower enclosures have a flat, angular profile with straight glass panels. The footprint is typically square or rectangular. The entry doors are positioned at the front corner angle. They tend to offer a larger internal showering area for the same overall footprint and suit more modern, angular bathroom designs.
Quadrant shower enclosures have a curved front panel that follows the arc of a quarter-circle. They look softer and more rounded, suit traditional or transitional bathroom styles, and are paired with a curved quadrant shower tray. The curved front can make the internal space feel slightly narrower for taller users.
In short — if you want maximum internal space, a sharper contemporary look, and flexible tray pairing, a corner entry enclosure is typically the stronger choice.
Door Types Available on Corner Entry Enclosures
One of the key decisions when choosing a corner entry shower enclosure is the door mechanism. Here’s how the main options compare:
Double sliding doors — both panels slide open simultaneously on top and bottom tracks, meeting in the middle. No swing space required, smooth to operate, ideal for bathrooms where the space directly in front of the enclosure is limited. The most popular choice on corner entry enclosures.
Hinged double doors — two glass panels hinged on each side of the entry frame, opening outward from the centre like a pair of French doors. Creates the widest possible access opening — excellent for accessibility and a premium, open feel — but requires clearance space in front for both doors to swing out.
Single pivot door — a single large glass panel that pivots outward on a central or offset hinge. Simpler mechanism, clean minimalist look, best suited to larger corner enclosures where the pivot arc doesn’t intrude on adjacent fixtures.
Choosing the Right Size Corner Entry Enclosure
Corner entry shower enclosures are available in a range of standard square and rectangular sizes. As a general guide:
700×700mm — the minimum practical footprint; suits very compact corners but can feel tight for taller or broader users
760×760mm or 800×800mm — the most popular sizes for UK bathrooms; comfortable for most adults, fits the majority of bathroom corners without requiring layout changes
900×900mm — the sweet spot for comfort; feels genuinely spacious inside without dominating the room
1000×1000mm — best for larger bathrooms or where the enclosure is the centrepiece of the room; pairs well with a rainfall shower head and full-height shower panels
All corner entry enclosures require a compatible shower tray — typically a square or rectangular low-profile stone resin tray. Browse our full range of square shower trays and rectangle shower trays to find the perfect match for your enclosure size.
Glass Specification, Coatings & Frame Finishes
Every corner entry shower enclosure in the ShowerBoard range is fitted with toughened safety glass manufactured to BS EN 12150 — the UK building regulation standard for safety glass in wet environments. Glass thickness across the range spans 5mm to 8mm, with thicker glass delivering a noticeably more premium, solid feel when opening and closing the doors. Many models include an easy-clean glass treatment or nano coating that causes water droplets and limescale to bead off the surface rather than drying into unsightly marks — a feature that makes a significant difference to your day-to-day cleaning routine.
Frame finish options include polished chrome for a timeless, universal appeal; matt black for a bold, contemporary statement; brushed nickel for a warm, understated elegance; and brushed brass for bathrooms with a distinctly luxurious, hotel-inspired aesthetic. Frameless and semi-frameless options are also available for those who prefer the cleanest, most open look.
Installing a Corner Entry Shower Enclosure — What to Know
Corner entry enclosures are among the more straightforward shower installations for an experienced bathroom fitter. Since two sides are fixed to the walls, only the front glass panels and frame need to be self-supporting. Most models include a wall tolerance adjustment of 15–25mm built into the frame profiles, accommodating the minor variations in wall plumb and level that are common in UK homes. A compatible square or rectangular shower tray with appropriate waste position is required, and most manufacturers recommend silicone sealing at all wall and tray junctions on completion. If you’re planning a full bathroom installation, our ShowerBoard team can advise on compatible shower trays, shower panels, and wall boards to pair with your chosen enclosure.
